Introduction to the Critical Technical Practice Lab & digital maker technologies

January 18, 2017

In this two-part workshop, we welcomed a group of 11 youth who participate in the Esc@Up project based in bairro da Palmeira, Câmara de Lobos. The Esc@Up project is housed in the Social and Parish Center of Santa Cecilia, and exists to foster digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, and empowerment of youth.

In the first session, the youth were introduced to the Lab and its key projects and technologies. Demonstrations of the projects and machines were conducted by Victor Azevedo, accompanied by Hugo Aguiar, Sara Tranquada, and Michelle Kasprzak. In the second part of the workshop, the youth were engaged in using the laser cutter machine to create parts for 3D sculptures that they then assembled. Following the hands-on work, we discussed with the youth how the facilities at the CTP Lab fit into and expand their ideas of what can be created using digital technology.
